Today is the beginning of the Extraordinary Holy Year!

08 December 2015

For the first time in 15 years, the Holy Doors of St. Peter's Basilica were opened by Pope Francis, initiating the Jubilee Holy Year of Mercy!

When walking through the Holy Doors, pilgrims are free of all past sins and debts. Visa or AmEx may not honor this but nonetheless pilgrims will arrive from all over the world to celebrate this special year with Pope Francis.

In the past, the Holy Doors of St. Peter's Basilica were opened every 50 years. This was then changed to every 25 years giving everyone the chance to repent. However, Pope Francis is keeping us on our toes and has declared that 2016 will be an extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy.

The Vatican has many events planned throughout the Jubilee, starting on Dec 8th, 2015 until Nov 20th, 2016.
