Tour Description
Starting in Florence, our local team will meet you at your hotel to begin the day. From Florence, we first make our way to Siena which is just over an hour drive from Florence's city center passing through the stunning landscapes of the region.

Upon arriving in Siena we will park the car and begin on foot as this is the best way to reveal the walled city. Around 4 hours will be spent exploring Siena while visiting the many must see sites of the city as well as some of the neighborhoods which give us a great view into how local life is today.
On this private tour, we will visit the central town square of Siena, better known as Piazza Del Campo. This massive medieval square not only houses the Palazzo Pubblico (Town Hall) and the sky scraping Torre del Mangia, but it also holds the famous Palio horse race which is on twice a year with only the best and bravest bareback riders from the area. We will also visit Siena's main Cathedral. Built in the 12th century, it holds great works by Michelangelo, Bernini and Donatello, to name a few. Both the inside and outside of the Siena's Duomo will be covered in depth.

Our tour through Siena will also take in the Basilica of San Domenico, another of Siena's most important sites. This church is a popular attraction for tourists, and an important destination for religious visitors. There are two patron saints in Italy and Basilica San Domenico holds the skull of one, Saint Catherine of Siena; one of the most powerful women the Catholic Church had ever seen.
Like all full day tours, we must take time to recharge our batteries and enjoy the culinary delights of the area. Follow your nose, or let the guide lead the way to the best restaurants which all include local produce, meats and wines from the region. After lunch, we will then make our way to San Gimignano which is about a 45 minute drive away from Siena.

Travelling off the main highway on smaller roads, we experience scenery which is more than beautiful enough for the big screen. Movies like Gladiator and the English Patient both use the backdrop of Siena's countryside to give the viewer an idea of serenity, now you can see it first hand! Arriving in San Gimignano we will experience the most unique skyline of a lifetime as this small hill town holds 5 towers which command the surrounding countryside.

Once in San Gimignano, we leave the car behind and begin again on foot. After entering the walls of this medieval, 5 towered town we have fantastic Gothic and Romanesque architecture which is incredibly well preserved. We will take in the best of San Gimignano while visiting the many side streets, the central Piazza del Cisterna, Piazza del Duomo and the Collegiate Church of the Assumption of Mary which holds great works from the early renaissance. After our visit of San Gimignano, it will be time to make our return journey to Florence where the day tour will finish.
